Tip and bill-split calculation

By default, the tip is calculated from the pre-tax bill. Turn on “Calculate tip on bill plus tax” only when that matches your preference or local custom.

Formula and example

Tax amount = bill × tax percentage
Tip amount = tip base × tip percentage
Total bill = bill + tax + tip
Amount per person = total bill ÷ number of people

For an $80 bill, 18% tip, no tax and two people, the tip is $14.40, the total is $94.40 and each person pays $47.20.

Mandatory service charges or gratuities may already be included. Currency selection changes the displayed symbol but does not perform exchange-rate conversion. If rounding up each share, the combined payments can be slightly higher than the exact total.
